Default lost all power.....

On my way to work. This is the second time this has happened. Radio static, gauges go dead, start to lose acceleration. It died then clicked when I tried to start it again. Must be a major short or something. Absolutely 0 power. Battery was charging just fine. Then it just died..... Anyone have this issue before???

sounds to me like a dying alternator. Works sporadically and the completely quits charging. the truck runs on battery power until it has no more, thus you can’t start it back up again.

the alternator is only two years old. And it was charging and then just completely died.

The 97's have an inline alt fuse that can slip out of the holder and short circuit or blow. If it's shorting, charging will be intermittent. You have to open up the holder, check it and make sure it's fully plugged in.

So what year is your truck? engine? Body style?

In some years the mega-fuse on the firewall going bad would cause the symptoms you describe. But without knowing anything about your truck we can only guess.

^^^^ I think Brew nailed it. This is why I was asking the year... 97 and 98 have this issue.

charging is always constant and have never had a problem but I will check it. I was thinking after reading that I might be the mega fuse.

Yea, it could be the MEGA fuse. But those don't usually blow unless you shorted out battery power or handled the fuse itself recently and accidentally cracked it. Those prevent the truck from going up in flames lol. A little tricky to test since continuity may pass but the fuse could actually be bad / cracked. If I recall correctly, the fuel pump is on that same MEGA fuse, -same as the ALT. So that would be cutting out as well.

Other than that bad batt, alt or cables. Have go through a few things.
