When that inline fuse played games with me with my old 98, it looked seated in the holder until I put pressure on it. Check battery voltage, see where your at.

How do you actually KNOW (or think you know) it was charging?

All of your symptoms are of a battery that ran down and died because it wasn't being charged.

I always keep an eye on my volt meter to see if it's charging. It's a habit i carry over from my day job.

Your in-dash voltmeter (and the battery indicator) are not reliable indicators of whether or not the system is operating. Relying solely on them can leave you stranded...
