Default Knocking Sound

For those who don't already know, I bought a reman recently (in house from Ford) and had it installed right around the holidays.

Small update: No smooth sailing yet. The truck ran excellent for about a week and one night when I was looking under the hood I noticed a small amount of coolant building around bank 2. I took it to the shop and they concluded the intake manifold is leaking and in need of replacement (how about that timing).

Also, I recently noticed a particular knocking sound and am thinking I am going to have to take it to Ford to have them look at it. I'm planning on it monday. The sound does not happen when driving, in fact, it seemingly only happens when I accelerate the truck while in park and while it's cold (at least I think so far).

I looked around on Youtube and found a video that has the identical sound. Keep in mind it only does it when I press the gas. Have you guys seen this before?

Try swapping the PCV valve.

Yea, I've heard them make some strange sounds. Like cards in bicycle spokes lol.

Yeah, it can sound like anything like cards in spokes to a baby rattle snake.

We should also mention that you should use a MOTORCRAFT PCV valve only.....

Wow. I wouldn’t have guessed that.

It’s sounds like it’s coming from inside the engine but slightly towards the passenger side

If it's cold where you are, the entire PCV system can freeze up as well. Doesn't have to be cold though and a Motorcraft valve is a must.

I’m in Florida so it depends what you mean by cold, but we just had a record low of 35. Coldest it’s been in close to 10 years lol

Here as well lol. But yea, like I said doesn't matter. They don't have to ice up to sound off. A bad PCV can mimic a rod knock, sound just like one. If your lucky this the case.
