Default How to verify engine type

is there an area on the engine itself to confirm the type of engine I might have? (5.4 vs. 4.6)?

Reason I ask is... the VIN and everything advises I should have the 5.4 v8...

However, I troubleshooting an EGR CEL ... I ended up buying a DPFE sensor that goes on 4.6 engines as the one slated for the 5.4 looked NOTHING like what I had on my engine (and wouldn't fit for nothing).

Thanks in advance for the help.

I was thinking the manifolds were different. Probably not though. The 5.4 block is a bit taller than the 4.6, if you dont mind measuring :p

Intake manifolds are different. The 5.4 has a taller deck, so the manifold is wider.

I could measure my 4.6 if you would like

If you open the Hood and look down between the valve covers under the throttle body. If you have a grey its a 4.6 if its a black a 5.4.
