Default help with dash lighting

Ok i have a 2002 xl, my dash/ac controls do not light up. a few months ago the lights (dash/ac controls) would go out and i would slightly move the dimmer by the light **** and they would turn back on and suddenly nothing. My question is this common and which fuse should i be looking at before replacing the part? thanks

Not sure which fuse it would be, look in your manual if you still have it. If the fuses are good, it's probably going to be the switch. Can you manually turn them on by rotating the switch to the right?

take the ac/radio surround off (just pops off) then unscrew the 4 screws holding the climate control in, pull it out and disconnect all the wiring harnesses, on the back you'll see 2 **** things, push down and twist to get them out, thats what the bulbs are attached to. just get some new lights like them and put em back on without touching the bulb (use a rag or your shirt) then connect everything back and they should work. i had the same thing happen to mine and this fixed it - bulbs were burnt out

Huh, my phone didn't send my second reply about the bulbs. My ac lights didn't come on, so I just replaced them and now they work. But, if all the lights aren't working then its probably a fuse or the switch.

Did you try moving the **** to the parking light position? I can check my manual to see what fuse it is if needed

for the gauge, that might be burnt out bulbs as well, go to my write up about 97-03 odometer fix in the how-tos to see how to remove the cluster if you dont already know and youll see where the lights are too

thank you.... I fixed it......I took the fuse out and it was good but different rating , then took out the switch dimmer part and used some compressed air to clean it and put it back on with a new fuse with the correct rating and its good to go........ who knows exactly what was wrong but its working now......i don't think it was the fuse since it was working fine since I purchased about a year ago. i think it was the compressed air.... thanks......

Good you figured it out. The dealership told me you can't repair any one display the whole panel has to be replaced and it isn't cheap. So I'm ignoring my current problems.
