help with amp
I am trying to decide between two different packages. Same speakers 2-12s in a box. One comes with a mono amplifier and the other with a 2 channel amplifier. What is the difference?
Wiring configurations. Does your box have 1 set of terminals or two? How about the sub's, dual or single voice coils? There are plenty of wiring diagrams online.
Mono is good for a sub as it can support lower impedance, typically down to 0 ohms.
2 channel for multiple speakers, lower rms is common since speakers don't need 400 RMS each but a sub/s might. Some support bridging which can increase RMS for single terminal applications.

Mono means one channel and the other is two. I'm running a 600 watt mono amp too 1 1200 watt sub. I still fairly new understanding the amp and watts and ohms and such. I'm sure others with more knowledge will chime in. While waiting ya could do a quick search on the web to get more info on it as well. That's what I do a lot LOLOL.
I knew I forgot some things. I forgot bout all the other factors. All I could come up with was well in my response. Hahaha

A $300 L7 sub is only 750 watts RMS.
A poor understanding of the basics results in fried amps and blown woofers.
For starters, you never speak in max watts as it's completely irrelevant to specing out hardware.

This setup will replace my rear speakers. Being that they are subwoofers, will I get any other sound other than bass? Such as voices or music? The 2 channel is 4ohm and rms 260x2. That is what spec says. Which will not only play bass? Mono or 2 channel?

Not if you use the low pass option on your head unit (assuming you have the ability to adjust it) or some amps have adjustable low pass as well. I'd recommend around the 80hz-100hz range depending on what sounds best to you. They will both play bass. You just have to set it to play only certain frequencies. Do us a favor and post us a link to what you're looking at or post complete specs so we can better help you make a decision.
I will.
Right. Easy to tell your new when you say you have a 1200 watt sub and 600 watt amp. That sub would be severely underpowered and sound like garbage if you were talking rms. It's better to have an amp slightly over powered than a woofer way under powered. A $300 L7 sub is only 750 watts RMS. A poor understanding of the basics results in fried amps and blown woofers. Far as the amp overpowered a bit more then sub I thought it was a bad thing. Possible blow the sub. Learn something new everyday. This is why I don't instal systems lol.
Though I did my own and like I said sounds good to me. Then again I am deaf in my right ear hahah. Looked a bit on google and found out my sub is 350 rms and my amp is 300 rms. That's all I know haha.
