OK, your next step is to check the transfer case relays. It is located under the under the top cover of the dash, right above the stereo. I took this pic of my Expedition a while back to show the location.

That I'm not 100% certain - but it was still there in 2001, so most likely yours is too.

Check and see if you have 12 volts in that harness (this is the gray piece closer to the windshield). Then see if you get ground coming in that harness when you move your switch. If both of those are present, change the relay.

You could make a jumper wire from a good known ground source and see if the relay activates.

At work I usually can get a relay to work again (temporarily) by giving it some love taps with the handle of a screwdriver.

After some futher checking. And fooling around. I'm guessing the greens are constant hot. The pink and blue coming from the selector switch to the relay is the signal wire. The black in white from the pigtail runs in to the dash is hot at all times also not sure what it's for. Maybe the light in the dash. When I select 4x4 a circuit should close and send power out one of the bigger wires. Witch none of these had power. No matter what position the the **** was is. Except when I check for a ground the black wire of the door jam. It shows grond.
