My first time or two was a bitch too. The metal tools don't work worth a damn and I ended up breaking mine, just use the plastic tool and push it as far as possible and pull the filter away from the line, should pop right off.

thanks guys for all the help. going to get some fuel line and clamps today. ill cut off the bad connector and old line up to the metal part then run new rubber line to the filter with a clamp on each side.

Dorman repair kit didnt work, hose barb wouldnt fit in old part of plastic type line. Right now its fixed with a rubber hose from the filter to a small diameter piece of copper line into the old plastic type line. Held with double hose clamps. Will see how long that works i guess.

It's unsafe and illegal to use copper as brake and fuel line...

Just replace the quick connect fittings. Follow the fuel line and remove whats holding it inplace. Did you remove the fuel filter from the bracket before disconnecting the line?

ok, i just realized the idiot at oriellys i talked to on the phone gave my fiance the wrong dorman repair kit. It has the 3/8 hose barb connector. Not the 5/16 like yours. I noticed because your barb looks different then mine. thanks for your reply it has solved my issue it looks like.
