Default filter in and out lines different?

I have been trying to replace my fuel filter. The incoming line popped right off with the tool. The output was a nightmare. As you can see from the pic it's rusted. Anyway I have two questions. Why is the input different from the output? Even though the internal dimensions seem to be the same (as the fuel filter tubes were the same dimensions, measuring about .310) the input is larger than the output.
Second question. What is the best way to replace this rusted connector. There must be some kit to cut off the connector and splice into the hose.
Thanks.

Don't know about replacing the line. The differnt size fittings is so you can't put the filter on backwards.

I ended up going with this product after chatting online with a dorman tech.
Worked like a champ. The instructions say to put the tube in hot water for 10 minutes but I just used a heat gun. Heated it up, shoved the barbed fitting in and when it cooled down it was very tight.

Nope. These aren't rubber lines they're nylon. When you heat them it softens and allows the barbed fitting to go in and when it cools it's very tight and stiff. Kinda like molding it a little to the fitting. They apparently are not meant to use clamps.

Question

How did you secure the barbed fitting to the braided line where you cut off the old connector? Is the line rubber underneath the braided section? I am in a situation where I am about to go this route, and I want to be sure I cover all my steps before I cut off the connector. Thanks.

Yeah I'm not really sure what I could add. My line is not rubber it's nylon.
The repair has lasted perfectly.
