Default Door Rust

Hey guys,

Did a little searching on the issue but didn't find too much consistency on the issue. Anyway, I had posted a thread about possibly buying an F-150 and it seems like everyone I look at has lower door rust. Some are worse than others and I was just wondering if this is something that these trucks do or should I run if I see it. Below are a couple examples from the trucks.

First one has rust on the bottom of all four doors, second/third only has it on the suicides

I'm not a body man, but that doesn't look that bad to me, if it's an older truck.
Don't take my word for it, though, I'm sure there's guys that know more about it than I do on here

These lap welds seem to have a high incidence of rust. I had an 03 Explorer which developed rust on th the same type of seam weld on the rear hatch door. Body shop at dealership repaired it but it was back in about 6 months. I just try to keep them clean and waxed to try to head it off. Welding needs clean steel. The slightest bit of contamination and the weld and paint covering it are compromised. Leave steel or iron deck furniture outside and notice where the rust starts- at the welding points.

I just went over mine, I just sanded down the rust spots till you get some bare metal and throw some primer on it, sand it and get some color matching spray paint and take a coat of that over it

i had to repair it to all three of my doors. get a roloc wheel on a die grinder or angle grinder and just grind the rust on the inside of the door the BEST you can...some of it may be hard to get out but get as much as you can...spray a etch primer over it, or get heavy bodied seam sealer and run a thick bead of the seam sealer and have it so it overlaps both panels. this will stop the rust significantly and will make it look factory, and you wont see any rust! then prime, and paint to match.

When mine started to pop at the bottom's I took off the door panels and smeared (liberally) chassis grease in the lower quarter of the doors. Stopped it in it's tracks, I wish I had done the rest of the truck now, Bed is ready to fall off - Thanks Michigan !
