Check ALL rubber bushings (the 2WD models have control arms with the ball joints built in). My creaks came on turns, which revealed where the rubber wore out, resulting the metal-on-metal noise. Rear leaf bushings would sound the same.

I have a 98 a couple of years ago my truck started doing a similiar thing, when i hit a dip in the road or went over train tracks i heard a creak/clunk sound coming from the front end. Turned out to be a broken stabilizer link.

My truck does literally the exact same thing, besides for it does it randomly and only when turning left. I think its my ball joints.

I know its not ujoints because i replaced them 2 months ago.

Mine was doing the same thing, i spraye the tailgate pivot points and where the leaf springs mount up with Fluid Film in an aerosol can, cleared it right up, although your problem may be something else
