Default Console install Done!

Finally. I know I work slow but DANG!

Never did find the brackets for underneath the console. Ended up using blocks of wood bolted to the floor brackets. Good news is it's nice and tight. But wood?!

Console had rear radio and heater controls. Just deleted the controls with a couple of textured plastic pieces, and added a couple of 12v charging ports because it "needed something". Sticks out into the rear seating area a bit more than I thought it would, but as long as some dumbass doesn't leave the cup holder open and stomp it on the way out it's fine.

Front heater controls got replaced with a plate too. Put my trailer brake controller in it and left room for a toggle if I ever decide to put some Daylighters behind the grill or something. I would have liked to mount it flush, but gotta have access to the manual leaver underneath it, and there wasn't enough room for my fatass finger.

Overall it turned out to my satisfaction. New (to me) front seats, speakers and head unit, carpet... Speaking of seats, I didn't even think about the expy seats not leaning forward. Makes me really wish I had 4 doors instead of 3. Access to the back seat is now passenger side only for sure.

Best part of the whole deal was spending time with my 17yo son who did most of it with me supervising.

Had it painted last winter. Now she's good for another 212,000. I personally like the body style (front end) better than the new ones anyway.

Very nice... I have a expedition console in my tuck also thats just loose because I cant find the brackets.. How thick of wood did you use to bolt to the floor?? Im thinking ill be doing the same thing..

Also where did you find the textured plate stuff?? mine has the radio controls but id like to put a plate like yours and add a couple 12V ports like you

I used some scraps that I glued together and squared up. Not sure the exact thickness I ended up with. Maybe 2-3" total. It wasn't hard, just trial and error. Sit it down on them, too high, shave a little off, still too high, little more... Probably have to remove the seats if It ever has to come out though I bolted it through the sides beside the seats since I didn't have the interlocking brackets. You can't see them even if you look for them after the seats are in. You could just use some screws ran down through the bottom of the console too if you do it with the seats in.

I got the plastic off ebay. It's 1/8" thick sheet.

This is the only one I see on there now but the same seller is the one I got it from. I don't see any of the 12" x 12" pieces which is all you need. Might want to send them a message. Also, you don't need it as thick as I got. It's pretty stiff. I'd get 3/32 or maybe even 1/16 if I had it to do over.

I cut the center out of the A/C and radio controls with a bandsaw and then hot glued the plastic to the faces. The crazy angles they bolt to made this the easiest way to do it for me. The 1/8" sheet raises the mounting points so I uses some #10 nuts as spacers. (too lazy to make them outta the plastic.) Can't see them anyway.

The edges after you cut it are pretty rough too. The 12v ports I got had a lip that covers the hole, so no problem. The hole I cut in the front for the back half of the brake controller to stick through I slit some vacuum tubing and used it as edging.
