Default Codes P0401 and P1400 ?

Hello all just got a 99 F150 with 47000 miles on the 4.2 V6...it was garage kept and belonged to an old man that passed away...it was never drivin hard...right after i got it the CEL came on and i went to Autozone and it was the EGR valve...put a new one and drove it for 1 day now the light has come on again and its showing these codes....does it need cleaning or is a sensor bad..

It says on the printout they gave me that probable cause is

Blocked passage to Egr
failed egr valve
egr solenoid faulty
Failed egr pressure sensor where applicable
failed EGR position sensor where applicable

any help would be greatly welcomed...thanks

Usually a faulty DPFE.

dont use carb cleaner it will damage the diaphram in the valve. a wire brush and a pointy picker will do the job. Take the valve off, and pull a vacuum on it with your mouth to get the valve and seat exposed, so you can gently scrape off the carbon. When I do it i put my finger in my mouth while sucking on the vacuum line to actuate the valve then put my finger over the vacuum port to keep the valve open. btw you could simply have a clogged orifice from the exhaust line to the egr valve. That sounds more likely to me b/c an old man was driving it. Most likely a lot of idle time, so that carbon doesnt get blown out, and just accumulates. that you can use carb cleaner on. Its just a bastard to get it off and on.
