The F150 radio is in. I'll furnish picture another day for that. I'm also installing the steering wheel from a 2000 Lincoln Navigator. It has cruise control (same as ours), and also it has swc's for the audio and heater controls. Of course the heater controls won't work, but the radio head still reads their signal. I'll configurate them the way I want later, but right now I'm going to worry about the swc's alone.

With this android head, all you need is two wires hooking up, and the swc's will work. I did this on my S197 Mustang, and have full controls using a 2012 Boss steering wheel into my 2007. This should be about the same as the Mustang set up, so it should be a quick add on. I'll do the checking and post if it is more intense than I think.

Here are a couple pictures of the steering wheel, that I am adding. Note that the Ford air bag fits perfectly without any modifications. I have a correct airbag in my truck, but used my other one, to show that it fits. I've located the wires needed to attache to, so it should be a fairly easy change out. The Mustang took 20 minutes from start to finish. I made the harness, so it was quick and easy. This might be even easier, at least it looks that way. I'll post when I add it and the head pics, to show they working together.

I just did some checking, and luckily I won't need an ASWC-1 or any type kit to use steering wheel audio controls. The 98 Navigator is the same clockspring that the 97-98's use, with cruise control only, and they have audio controls functionality. By running the wiring schematic, it turns that a simple 2 wire add to the factory 16 pin plug, using a head with SWC functions, is all that is necessary. The #8 and #16 pins are the audio controls. Most of the aftermarket plugs leave these 2 wire spaces vacant. You just add the two wires and hook the #16 to the positive or key1 wire, and the #8 wire to the negative, key2 wire that is part of the radio wiring in back. I like it.

I guess it's back into the dash this week, after I have my cruise control recall done. I forgot about it, until yesterday, so I made my appointment today. As soon as they do it, I'll make the steering wheel controls functional using this setup.

How's this coming along?
I still keep forgetting to take screencap of the radio app...

Ford thought I was bringing in my Mustang for the recall, when it was for the F150. They had to order the part and it is due in next week, so I am at a standstill. Besides, yesterday we got a surpize 12 inches of snow. None hardly all winter, and we get 1/2 of what we had for the year in one day. lol. It will be gone in a couple days (40's today) and I'll get back to my projects.

Ok, Ford did the recall today, so this weekend, it looks like I'll be trying the steering wheel for the swc's. With any kind of luck, I should have this up and pictured by early week. It will all depend if I have to watch the grandkids this weekend or not. If not, we have mid 50's and sunny skies. Looks like F150 working weather. lol Sorry I couldn't get back to it any sooner. I was waiting for the dealer to do their warranty, before I got into the replacing of possible warranty parts.

Two mechanics at Ford asked me if I was interested in selling "blue" today. The one guy was really after me. He asked when I came in, if I was interested in selling, and when I came to pick it up, he said he ran the Carfax and brought out the NADA book, and he offered me the top book price from it. I turned him down. It has a 6175 high book plus 250 for the shell, plus the new android head. He offered me 6500 but I just couldn't do it. It has a sentimental vaue, because my wife picked it out, and she has since passed away. Logically, I can't replace it for that, so why sell it. I have every receipt ever for it, so I have a very good knowledge of its condition. I've owned it since 09. The very best I could find to replace it was an 05 F150, but even then it was 8k with 160k and the infamous cam phaser problems. I couldn't let her go.

I couldn't have let it go either. Absolutely not for anything less than an 08.

Quick question to anyone who's done the double din install:

Did you end up cutting the lower bar that 'separates' the radio from the heater controls? The 'METRA' kit I bought says to do so but I didn't see the first guy do it who posted the first pictures on this thread. The trim ring doesn't seem to fit and looks like it might if I trim that support bar and push the radio down a touch. Any thoughts?

Oh, I did all that. The unit is in and looks great but it appears that the Metra guide says to cut the bottom support bar of the sub dash between radio and heater controls in order the get their trim ring in. This is for a Kenwood unit (DDX24BT) btw, but double din is double din after all. Anyways, I'll either leave it be or cut it out, drop the radio a touch, and slip the trim ring in.
