alarm issues
97 f150 lariat 4x4 supercab 5.4 auto. The alarm goes off randomly when doors locked by remote or door switch. not consistent, went off 4 times one day, couple days later went off again. Has not gone off three days now by locking doors manually. maybe coincidence? has only gone off in daytime knock on wood! changed batteries in remotes. Every time I think I solved it goes off. any help or ideas much appreciated

It's not factory if it's a 97, so your guess is as good as ours.
Have a pic of the remote? I know a bit about the dealer installed units, but anything beyond that is like throwing darts.

That sure looks like a factory-style keyless-entry remote.
When you say "the alarm goes off," what (exactly) happens?. Horn honk and light flash? Is there a siren? If there's a siren, it is most likely a dealer-installed "Ford accessory" alarm system. These were made by CodeAlarm. Those remotes, though, if I remember correctly, look different.

Yeah, that looks like a factory remote.... but I swear those remotes only went to 1996. Also never seen a 97 with a factory alarm.

horn and lights no siren. I have manually locked doors (pushed button down, shut doors) since the weekend alarm has not gone off? Last week I locked doors using button on driver door couple mins later alarm went off as well?

Well, the factory anti-theft system is designed to sense when a door us opened either without a key unlock or fob unlock after they've been locked electrically. You could have a wire shorting, or the module could be going bad. Look up under the dash, driver's side. Do you see a box that looks like this one? (It's abut 4" by 5" if I remember correctly.)
Also, after turning off the vehicle, but before locking the doors, do you see a "THEFT" light flashing in the dash?

Yes, this box that Ohio posted is almost directly above the brake pedal, mounted on the firewall. Tell us if you have this box.
Pics would also be great if you could get some.
