Default Alarm issue

My 97 f150, the alarm goes off every 3-4 hrs, with nothing near it. I just bought it. It didn't come with responder keys or key fobs. The keys are ordinary replace keys nothing fancy.
Has any one else had this problem?? What can I rewire or remove to end this problem??

When it goes off, does it honk your horn? Or is it a siren?

Aftermarket or OEM Alarm?

If aftermarket I had a similar issue with my 03 when I had a alarm installed. It turns out a diode needed to be installed onto something dealing with the dome light.

97's didn't have factory alarms, only dealer installed and they were mostly tied into the horn.

Default up date on alarm issue

The horn honks, it is the factory ford alarm system. When I bought the truck, the previous owner told me that the alarm goes off some times. It whet off only once in the 2 months I have it. 2 days ago, started to drive it daily, and put a canopy on the truck, have not wired it up yet. Now the alarm is going off all the time.

It was installed by the dealer. The brain will look like this black box. The instructions in the box said to install it near the steering column. It's been a while since I installed one, but as I recall there should be a 5 amp fuse about a foot away from the harness going in to the box. Pull that fuse and you should be good.

Just an FYI, that alarm was made by Code Alarm.

Hate to tell you but there was a factory installed security system that disable the ignition on 97's. I have one. They also had a dealer installed option.

Got a picture of the box? And where is it mounted?

Thanks for the info, and picture. I will pull the fuse and see if the alarm stops.
