Default Air con issues

After a few scorching days in the uk i really need the air con to work
i assumed it was a regas. sent it to local garage its heap enough.
they've told me the compressor isn't engaging.
is there a usual fault or issues to check 1st. before i start pulling it apart.
is there places to chck voltages etc to rule things out.

ive googled a few diagrams and what not. but thought best to ask as conflicting info can be a pain too

First thing is check power to the a/c clutch. Do you have power there?

Like White stated check the fuse for the A/C clutch.. that is the part that engages.. yours may be under the hood in a small fuse box mounted on the fender.

Also, if there is no pressure because the freon leaked out, the clutch won't engage regardless.

Is it blowing air at all? Mine just blows hot air. It's pretty miserable to be in during the dead heat of the afternoon

ive had it topped up and its holding pressure. it was vacuum tested before filling.
the garage checked clutch engagement and there was some power at the connector but 1.6volts
I'm going to have a look at it myself today . Is it a live and earth ?? ill test earth continuity as well if so
When set to air con it still blows.. but no difference to normal blowing

update.. garage was testing wrong connector lol

I found it and tested it.. 12 volts. connector wasn't holding pins correctly.
It is now , still no clutch engagement compressor feels not very smooth to rotate.

I'm assuming with gas and power its clutch failure.

How are you rotating the compressor without the clutch engaged ? did you remove the clutch ?

Next thing to do is bypass your low pressure switch to see if that is bad.... OR if the system is improperly charged. The switch will be in the low pressure line (metal line) almost directly above the compressor.... and I believe also right by the charge port.

All you do to bypass it is unplug it, and put a jumper across the harness. If it works... you've got a bad LP switch, or an issue with the R134A being charged improperly.
