ABS light on
I have a '99 F150 that I need to sell. I have bought a new truck. The ABS light has stayed on for the last +/-100K miles. It didn't affect me at all, so I never got it looked at. But now I have the feeling I might get a couple hundred more for the truck if that light's not on. Can anyone tell me how to know which sensor is bad? I'm guessing there's one on every wheel, right?

Pretty sure there is one on each front wheel and one in the rear diff. From what I've found, 9 out of 10 times it's the one in the rear diff that's not sending a signal. But that's just going to say that it's actually a sensor and not a wire somewhere. Not sure how you could test though, without buying a rear diff sensor and seeing if the light goes out.

I had the same issue on my 98 and on my 99. I believe they said it was the speed sensor, which I had fixed on my 99, but within a year or so the "ABS" light was back on again and I never worried about it again. When I sold the vehicle I explained to the buyer that the breaks were fine and that "ABS" is somewhat over rated.
had same problem, only my ABS would activate when I was on dry pavement. It was the rear sensor. Cant remember the cost, but it was cheap. Fixed the problem right up, no problems since(which is now going on 2 years)

I drove about a year with the ABS light on. I cleaned and inspected the front ABS sensors a few times with so success. I went to the dealership, told them the problem and they told me it was probably the rear sensor. I think it cost around $20 and took 15 min to install in the driveway. This is something you can easily do at home, and save some $$!
When my ABS light was on the ABS would not work. This was not a problem in the summer but could potentially be a problem on the snow and ice.

I received some very good advice from the fine folks on this forum. I replaced the rear ABS sensor in about 10 minutes. Could have been quicker if I knew what I was doing beforehand. Anyway, light went out & it performed flawlessly. Sensor only cost me about $18.
Thanks for all the good advice. I love the internet!
