4wd doesn't work help!
The only time it is illuminated is when the GEM turns it on. The GEM will turn it on for prove out at start up and when you engage 4x4.
The GEM receives a signal form the switch to shift the t-case. The GEM sends current to the relays and they power the shift motor. When the shift motor moves the forks in the t-case it also moves contact plates in the motor assembly which sends feed back to the GEM to indicate the position of the shift forks. Using the relays the GEM can turn the motor clockwise and counter-clockwise.

Thanks!
Remove the actuator motor from the T-case. Engage 4x4 and see if the motor turns and the light illuminates. Try all the positions. Try turning the shift shaft in the t-case to see if it moves.
Doesn't mean shut unfortunately... My buddy had the exact same issue. The gems are VERY year make and model specific. We went through 3 of em to find a compatible one ... I have a friend at ford... What's the last 8 of your vin. I'll send u the part # u need

Hey guys I took my 4x4 switch out the other day and I noticed it has a light on it. Does the actual switch light up with the dash lights or does it only light up when 4x4 is engaged? Cause mine does neither, could it be the wiring to the switch?
MAN OHH MANN GUYS! just spent reading this entire thread cause im have the same issue with the 4x4 lights not coming on, and t case motor not shifting. All my relays and fuses are fine and i checked the 2 wires going into the solonoid on the shift motor and well i have no power going to the solonoid. it worked a couple weeks ago. and now its not working. id hate to buy a GEM for it and that not be the problem. Ford want $350 here in SO CAL for it
Does anybody know what heads the screws are that hold the shift motor to the transfer case? I tried allen keys and torx and neither would fit. The screws are pretty rusted. Was thinking about drilling them out and putting something else in.
