No, I've thought about the issue. If I take it out now I have no way to drive the vehicle everyday. So I tightened it up, now I'm going to find a self tapping oil plug, I saw two different types on some websites, one where the plug itself self taps in one peice then another where it is a two piece system.

It seems like the two piece system would cause less wear and tear on the oil pan and prevent further stripping.

Don't look like they have magnets on them that's dumb since your going to have shavings when they tap the pan well good luck with it hope we all helped you out some

I plan on running a quart of oil through it to combat that issue along with greasing up the threads to help the shavings stick to the fitting then removing it after it's finished and cleaning the shavings off.

Hopefully it turns out well....

kind of hard to pick up aluminum shavings with a magnet...

I just put a motor in my truck last year And the pan is steel in my 5.4l I've never seen a aluminum pan maybe Iam wrong

The 4.2 that we are talking about in this thread has an aluminum pan. All the new chevys have aluminum pans so they can cast in baffles
