I had this problem it was the alternator. Unplug it a start your truck if it goes away there's your answer

The bearings are still going to make noise if it's plugged in or not.

I was thinking the same thing...how would un-plugging the alt keep it from turning..

I think Western is talking about the internals of the alt whining, not the bearings.
