Ugh, FML.

Had a ****ty day at work today (was really busy), and while I was on break somebody robbed me. They broke into my bed toolbox by unlocking it somehow and stole my range bag with half a dozen mags, ~200 rounds of 9mm and all my cleaning supplies in it (no guns were in it, thank god), my 2-ton small floor jack, my 4-way tire iron (that's like 45 years old and belonged to my dad) and my toolbox with like 8 screw drivers in it. Oh and my roadside assistance kit and jumper cables.
FML and F thieving *******s.

Edit: They left my scissor jack, 55" LCD TV mount, tarp and blanket though.
I actually had to drill out and replace the lock it came with with a lock I bought at Lowes. The previous owner didn't include the key to it. Padlock, how would that work? Just drill some holes and shove the lock through?

I have no clue. I'm just spit balling. Be creative.
Or. Attached a 3/4"-1" rod to the inside of the toolbox, drill a hole in the lid, drill a hole in the end of the rod, put padlock through rod. That would be better and cleaner looking,

Honestly, that's why I don't run a toolbox anymore. They can be bent open, they eat up bed space and end up full of clutter. I would invest in a bed lid or cap, with a good remote start alarm system..
I was nearly robbed blind of over 2k in tools when I caught the lady, yes lady in the act. I ended up showing her mercy and she tried to flee, so I put her down and kept her down until the cops came... She got into my once securely locked box with my own pry bar I had in the bed. She destroyed the box in seconds and smashed her own rear window out on her jeep Cherokee in a panic to throw my tools in the back. (Chop saw, ridged cordless kit(s), pipe threading ridged 300, 1/2 10' copper pipes, fittings, all my hand tools.. Those tool boxes are safest when they are the solid steel units, not the diamond plate aluminum.
