Default TPMS Sensor Question

My 08 has the band-type sensors on the wheels currently outfitted. I just picked up some new-to-me OEM wheels that also have the band-type sensors. If I put the new wheels on, will the truck 'learn' the new sensors, or will re-programming be required? Will I need the reset tool? Trying to avoid the cost of swapping the sensors if possible.

They'd need to be programmed to your truck.

Is that something I can do, or the dealer has to?

I believe you'd need the scan tool for that. Any tire shop should be able to. You don't need a dealer.

I swapped wheels a while ago and the local tire shop programmed them.

I know there's a way to relearn for the 09-14. But I'm not sure it works that way for our trucks.

Just make sure the "band-type sensors" are the same ones that your vehicle has. Just because they are band sensors, doesn't make them the right ones.

Not familiar with those type sensors but have to wonder if they also have batteries like the 09> have, if so they are useless unless battery life is better than the claimed 7 years the 09> have.

They do have batteries. My sensors are about 8 years old and still work. Though, I plan on replacing them when I get a new set of tires.

Ford thought 5.4 3v timing system was good also....worse case scenario, a little piece of black electrical tape will take care of any issues.
