Towing capability
Just curious about towing with my 07 lariat with the tow package. I'm getting a dump trailer either a 3.5 or a 5 ton. To use on the class 3 hitch. I'm not sure if I should use a pintle or a reg ball hitch. The truck is a crew cab with a long box 5.4l. Question is will the truck be okay with this or should I be thinking about adding leafs in the rear or anything else? I really don't want to change the ride of the truck or do anything that will screw with the extended warranty.
Any thoughts or ideas would be great.

I wouldnt bother with add-a-leafs. Get a set of airbags. That way you can air it up when you tow and down when not. Very easy setup. My kit bolted on with no mods to truck. Long box crew will sqwaut with that kind of weight. As for towing make sure the truck is rated for it (check manual) and keep out of over drive
I love Pinto hitches personally... I feel they are much more secure than the old fashion style.... Plus, if you are able to see your hitch when you hook, you can back right into the pinto and you are done, none of this oops, went to far.
EAK!! Pulling the trailer empty would most likely be fine, I tow a 1987 26ft travel trailer behind my truck which weighs just shy of 6000 LBs. If you plan on putting things in the trailer i would discourage it. Adding leaves might help support the trailer, however, what you are not thinking about is how the transmission will like shifting with all that weight. Any hills will murder a light duty transmission trying to pull 5 tons.
That 5 ton and 3.5 ton trailer weights are most likely the loaded rating.
Your truck is not rated for 10000lbs, I dont think any 1/2 ton is. Just guessing, I would say you are somewhere between 8000-9000lbs tow rating.
How often, how far and under what circumstances will you be towing this trailer? If you are towing it around the block once a year, I would say you would be fine towing 10000lbs. If you plan to tow 10000lbs all day every other day, I would say you will eventually toast your truck.
Thers nothing wrong with buying a 10000lbs trailer and only loading it up to 8000lbs except it'll cost you more and weigh more empty.

Not trying to start an argument (and his may not be), but some 1/2 tons are. This is why I suggested he look at his door sticker and owner's manual. I do agree that even though my truck is rated at 11300, I wouldn't try to tow it everyday.
Yes the 5 ton and 3.5 ton are total GVWR, total loaded. I did see the chart above, but that's not for long box I don't belive... and I did look at my sticker though to be honest I don't know what I'm looking for, nor do I know what the gears I have....

The 3.5 ton trailer is 7000 LBS total loaded which is fine for using regularly and the 5 ton is obviously 10,000lbs loaded. I'm not planning on using it all the time, just leaving it on the construction site until it's full and then off to the dump, and the odd supplier pickup.
The trailers cost, in Canadian funds
3.5 ton $5500
5 ton $6000
6 ton $6600
I may in the future go to a F250 or F350, so if i pay a bit more now and don't over load it that should be fine.
Also I'm going to have to look into the airbags... I don't know much about them to be honest.
