Thats why most body shops wont touch rust unles they charge alot . its a job no body guy wants to do . Plus the Bed has to come off to fix it properly and getting those bed bolts out suck.

Ive only seen rusted cab corners on f150 super crews with and without sunroofs ..I think the holes in the backside of the rockers where left there to allow air to get in but who knows .. I have a super cab at the shop now for other work i will check it out to see if the super cab rockers differ in any way than the super crew rockers .

rust is like cancer you need to get it all out or your just playing the waiting game till it comes back .
Thanks for the input. This job is going to suck for both the person doing it and for the person paying for it.

I will not do this unless it is done the right way and it is protected from coming back in the future. It is just going to be a hard pill to swallow for such an old truck. I am not sure what else could go wrong with it that might need funds to go that way.

What are all those holes that go all along the underside where the running boards mount to underneath?? They are roughly one inch holes all along the rocker panel and they're covered with some kind of ****ty tape. Prob 7 to 8 on each side and prob half of them have the tape half off the holes! All the friggin road debris will get in there, especially salt in the winter! Someone has told me that this is a major part of the rocker cab corner issues, and that I should re tape them closed. He wants to actually spray foam them closed. lol

My 2005 supercrew had black rubber grommet plugs on the rocker holes (did still have corner cab/rocker rot). However last week bought a brand spankin new '14 supercab and had the sloppily applied tape u speak of Rusting cab corners-image-2785068045.jpg

I know.....isn't that crazy? Now what the heck to do.......should they be closed up tight? You'd almost think that's the intention. For myself, I'm almost thinking I'm going to change every factory piece of tape out with some fresh gorilla tape that will stay on there, but then I wonder, is that supposed to be all sealed? I dunno, but sealing it all off properly is my next plan. Mine is a 2013 XTR Supercrew. Who knows what the right thing to do is.....seems like a crappy tape job to me anyway that would let a whole lot of debris in to rust, that's for sure.

The tape is definitely a half *****$$ cost cutting measure vs the previous rubber grommets. My rockers on my 05 rotted bcuz of the cab corner hole leak issue and went from the inside out. Then the rest of length of rocker was pretty much only from the outside due to PO lack of washing and coating (in new england). I went along each rocker pulling and inspected where the plugs were and it was immaculate, so they definitely did a good job for what the intention was. I can definitely see the tape not holding up for long... Esp when they cant even place it right to cover the actual hole from the factory! I crawled under a new 2015 that was at a dealer and saw they redesigned the inner rocker; there didnt seem to be any openings for access plugs. The body/rockers seemed to be pretty much the same from 04 - 14. Havent had a chance to search online for set of grommet plugs to fit all the access hole. Going to do that and spray oil/wax inside before plugging to help enhance corrosion resistance. Plan to have this truck for 10+ new england winters.

A easy way to fix that will last a while till you can get it replaced or just to ment it for the time you have it, is to clean it out and make sure you shave the exes rust and part of rust that it has eating through and fill it with some bondo and Harding agent then let it sit to dry then put a moisture gard either way you want to do it on the back behind the bondo or on top(front) but it will seal the area for quiet a period of time then just buy some spray paint that matches you body color and paint over it and your good, only costed around 70 Canadian with paint

I get this is super super cheap way to make it looks like its fine. But this provides no structure, will most likely chip, and is shady as hell way to repair anything.

yeah it is a bit shady but as long as it hasnt started eating through the cab into the interior it is a easy fix till you have the cash to fix it, unless your just using it for a while and getting rid of it later on, but is a safe way to patch it instead of the body shops putting paper in and bondo with that which is in a way worse than this solution which will stop anymore rust from occuring
