A buddy of mine owns a body shop and just did a 2005 on both the ds and ps. He cut out the rot, welded in new panels, and repainted. He charged the car lot $600....

Also, with the bad section cut out, you could see up the length of the rocker and it was all rusted..... So they wire brushed as much as they could and then sprayed the inside rocker before fixing the corners. It was amazing how bad it was.

Default Source of moisture ?!?

Hi,
Cab corners both sides on my 2004 supercrew had a lot of rust on them... had them worked on (not replacing them) and it took just couple of days for new bubbles to appear, so rust is no doubt coming from inside.
Does anyone have a positive idea where moisture/water is coming from?
(Have photos from repair but cant post them)
I see ideas about sunroof, third breaklight etc, anyone suspect rear sliding power window?
All ideas appreciated, would be great to know how to fix the leak before replacing the corners.
Cherrs, Fritz.

I'd check to see if your third brake light on the cab is leaking or the rear window is leaking. My dads 2010 lariat leaked from the brake light. Idk if you'd be able to pull the rear seat forward or remove it to look at the inside of the back of the cab. That's where I would start if I was you, if you say it's coming from the inside. If it bubbled that quick after paint that would make me think they had moisture in the paint or the surface wasn't prepped properly.

Sunroof drains are the source. When I replaced the corners on my 05 I drilled 1/2 inch holes about 6 inches up on the inside of rockers and pulled drain tubes to the outside in lieu of in the rockers. Very stupid design, common sense isn't ver common!!!

If you get under your truck and look up at the cab there is a open spot about 2 inches long. I think this is where more of the problem is

Is there a place that holes can be drilled to allow for water to drain out? I am just looking for options or know if others out there have tried this.

I got a quote to have mine addressed and it was quite steep. Ouch!

Cut out the rust , weld in new cab corners and rockers , seal your 3rd brake light , get the sunroof drains to dump outside the rockers , blow foam and seal up the rockers & holes and pray it doesn't come back .. At my friends body shop we used to do alot of rust work up here in Ct but now everything is rusting and it isnt cost effective to fix plus its crap work .. Thats why most body shops wont touch rust unles they charge alot . its a job no body guy wants to do . Plus the Bed has to come off to fix it properly and getting those bed bolts out suck.

Ive only seen rusted cab corners on f150 super crews with and without sunroofs ..I think the holes in the backside of the rockers where left there to allow air to get in but who knows .. I have a super cab at the shop now for other work i will check it out to see if the super cab rockers differ in any way than the super crew rockers .

rust is like cancer you need to get it all out or your just playing the waiting game till it comes back .
