Default Replacing speakers.

Does the whole door panel on a 2005 need to come off to change the door speakers? Thanks.

Yes but before you pop it off, look for screw around the bottom and on the inside of the door handle.

I just did mine not even a week ago (2007 Screw). The front door panel does not need to come off, remove the applicable screws and the speaker cover pops off. The back door panels DO need to come off and, again, you need to remove all applicable screws. If it doesn't come off, DON'T FORCE IT. Check your work and make sure you have removed all of the screws. I haven't broken any panels, but I know plenty of impatient people who have.

My buddy's 04 Scab was the same as mine (didn't remove front door panel, did remove back door panel).

EDIT - Actually, I don't even think there were screws on the front door's speaker cover.

I have an 08 and the grills pop right off...Literally a 20min or less job for both sides. I also used the metra speaker adapters so it was straight plug and play swap.

What's the stock speaker size for our trucks up front? Also any speaker of stock size will be a PnP?

6x8 is the size. some will plug and play (Pioneer made the holes in the same place), but others, you may need to drill a new hole or two to fit.

Bought my speakers from Crutchfield.com They came with all the adapters, wiring. You can even use thier site to check into what speakers will fit into your vehicle. You get step by step instructions. Some have gone to sonicelectronix, google the spelling. The were pretty much the same price.

Go to this part of the forum for info, a good read. I believe Gator is still monitoring the audio stick. Wealth of knowledge on audio topics.

consider component speakers, you can see the tweeter hole in the picture earlier. Remember these speakers play into our knees while driving. Worth consideration.
Good luck, have fun. If you drive with only yourself or 1 passenger you might consider spending a little more for the front speakers, and not as much for the rears, but they need the same power handling capacity. You can't really hear the rear speakers all that well in my scab.
