Default Rear end exploded

Goin down the highway pullin a trailer today and a loud BANG caused me to unload in my pants. So bad that it killes the motor. Truck wouldnt move and the driveshaft just spins. Should i even open the diff? Or jusy try to find a new axle? It grinds and bangs if you put it in gear so im sure its hammered dog**** at this point. Dunno what to do really its my only truck and required for my job...

local salvage or junk yards. ford will have parts as well. my guess would be side gears, spiders or the cross pin. as long as the ring and pinion are in good shape the axle is worth saving.

I was kinda thinkin maybe the cross shaft backed out. I had an axle shaft out a year ago and didnt loctite the bolt... Theres no holes in anything or dents in the cover... We shall see tomorrow i guess.

I'd certainly pop the cover off and see what you've got. It sounds bad and you may be looking for a new rear axle assembly, but you might get lucky and only need some new gears. Keep us posted on how it goes.
