Question Programming Pats

I have a 2004 f150 that was bought used and of course, only came with one key. I have a laptop with the extended version of Forscan and an OBDlink EX adapter. I have read through the Forscan forums and read that that adapter will not work with programming due to the PCM using FEPS programming. To my knowledge (Which isn't much except what I've read so far), the PCM needs an 18V signal from the 13th pin on the DLC. My question is can I just send 18V to that wire to "unlock" programming or is the 18v wire actually a signal wire? i don't want to buy another adapter just to program keys and I FOR SURE don't want to pay Ford to do something I can do. Also, I have access to a JPro connector and laptop, does that send the 18v needed?
Thank you for any knowledge you can send my way

Why don't you just try it. If you have forscan talking to the vehicle already it should work...
I was able to program keys into my pcm using a bafx brand bluetooth adapter and forscan.

Other than that poster on that forum, I've never seen any reference to needing FEPS capability to program PATS on one of these trucks (or any other Ford). I'm skeptical about that claim. Worst case, the vLinker adapter recommended by the Forscan team is $35 on Amazon.

You will need two unique keys, already cut for the ignition cylinder, in order to program them into the system. Do NOT buy a hardware store clone for this operation as it is not "unique".

The big catch is that you'll have to erase all existing keys in order to add the two back in

I don’t know what kind of costs you are dealing with and don’t know how much of a hassle you are up against. But a remanufactured/warranted pcm solves the key problem, gets you latest updates, and doesn’t costs that much.

It, however, still needs to have PATS programmed once it is installed unless a replacement is procured that has PATS deleted.

When the VIN is provided to a PCM vendor for a replacement, it is used to program the Vehicle ID (VID) block which DOES require FEPS capability. The vendor is not able to pre-program PATS unless they also include two keys in a bundled package.

that was not my experience. New pcm came programmed with my vin info to it (I provided vin at purchase). Pcm was ready to receive/add keys when I installed it. I had two new/eBay keys purchased and cut and ready when pcm arrived. Did the simple self program/add procedure…. Took minutes to complete. Been working problem free for ~ 1.5 years now. Have also added addition keys since then too.

Are you saying that "PATS Programming" doesn't appear in the Wrench (icon) > "Service Procedures" window?

You do have a non-expired extended license key properly installed, yes? Check by clicking the "About" icon.

PATS programming does not show up, I checked again just now to make sure I wasn't just being an idiot. I have the most current version of forscan (or should as I updated it last week), and my extended license is good until 2023/07/22. I'll report back first thing tomorrow when the new adapter comes in. plus, it couldn't hurt to have a little more powerful of an adapter

Interesting... Was this for your '08?
What was that procedure?
From whom did you repurchase the PCM?
