Default Problem with 4WD

My 4WD will not activate in 4L. 4H is fine, but when I switch to 4L, it just goes back into 2WD and the 4L light doesn't even light up. Has anyone had this problem? Is it possible that it is a problem with the switch, or something electrical?

Are you putting it in Neutral before you try and put it in to 4Low

I was unaware of that. This is my first "on the fly" 4WD. The last one I had was a '77 land cruiser with locking hubs.

to shift into 4lo you stop, put the truck in neutral, shift into 4lo and wait for it to activate, then switch shift back into drive . the reverse process is required to shift out of 4lo

Thats the important part. 4lo is not on the fly like 4 hi, you must be stopped and switched into nuetral.
