Default Plug recommendation requested

I'm working on troubleshooting our F-150 (2004 4.6L) and am planning on replacing the spark plugs. Can someone recommend a quality plug?

I am assuming (hopefully correctly) that the boots and coils don't really need replacing. My understanding is that if a coil goes out, it goes out pretty quick and is usually due to the misfiring of the plug itself.

X10! I just changed mine a month ago with Motorcrafts. I did change to ACCEL COPs though.

Have you already replaced the plugs? If not make sure you have the Lisle tool. It works as advertised.

hydrant328 - I have not yet done this. Is the Lisle tool the one for broken plug removal? Are you saying to have it handy just in case?

Also for anyone - a follow-up question: the SP-515 plugs are $11-$12 each and the SP-493 run $4-$5 each. What is the difference in functionality between these two?

Yes, i got it from another forum member. Just pay the shipping to your location. Then you can send it to the next person.

Lisle tool isn't needed for the 4.6. But I would use motorcraft as they are the most reliable of the bunch. Replace COPs as needed. If they work, they don't need to be replaced.

x2 on 4.6, plugs and replacing COPs. Did change on mine, used original COPS with no issues. I went with the SP515 plugs, only because Champion was the only other option and I felt more comfortable with the Motorcraft.

Are champions not as good as they used to be?
