Default performance upgrades.

Need any and all inputs I can get. I have a 04 f150, 5.4 3v. Cam phaser noise, cat codes both banks with 4 cat set up. I should have the money in next few weeks to do the livernois lockout set, and a long tube header hi flow cat set up from eBay. The livernois kit comes with a tuner, so they will be able to write the tune for the mods. Any suggestions for other cost efficient power mods? I don't want a race truck, just to be able to have a bit of fun. Any opinions?

The long tube headers with a x-pipe or h-pipe and non chambered mufflers will make a nice torque improvement. A solid custom tune will really wake up the truck. It's a shame you are doing the lockouts as the advancement and retard of the cams brings on the power at all rpm's.

As for other mods don't get sucked in to junk mods like throttle body spacers which do nothing, fancy cold air intakes that perform no better then the stock unit with the gotts mod. Aftermarket coils are equally foolish as the stocks perform well to 900-1000hp. Now if your existing coils are aged out and need replacing then I simply suggest doing your research. It's hard to beat the Motorcraft coils though. The stock throttle body can flow enough air to support 450rwhp so buying the 80mm upgrade is pointless.

Enough with the negative. Electric fans can free up a few ponies. Changing the gearing will be one of the biggest wake up's for the truck.

Awesome. Thanks for the advice. Any suggestions on the x or h pipe? I have a Flowmaster 40 muffler now with the rest factory. In the future when money is a bit better, I plan on a supercharger, or just a complete build top to bottom. But for now I'm on a budget.

You can't go wrong with either really. The x-pipe is what I run for improved scavenging. Can't afford any loss in velocity of the exhaust and heat pushing this kind of power. Especially on a bone stock motor. With that said the x-pipe tends to create a more raspy exhaust note where as the h-pipe keeps a clean deep sound.

Heres a vid of my exhaust from my slower days.

A good thread on x vs h. https://www.f150forum.com/f4/xpipe-hpipe-258981/

Here is a thread with my exhaust system. https://www.f150forum.com/f4/new-man...xhaust-183522/

I'm gonna look for a x pipe. Any brands you recommend or is it basically all the same? I found the headers/cat set up on ebay. It's maximizer exhaust for $500, so as long as I can weld it to that

Ok. Now I'm kinda new to x pipe and all that stuff. I've done headers before an cat back exhaust but that's about it. What is the point of the x pipe, and does it matter where it goes? The header/cat set up I'm looking at is long tube with hi flow cat with a factory like y pipe set up. http://m.ebay.com/itm/like/201307119113?item=201307119113&vectorid=229466&rmvSB=true&ul_ref=http%253A%252F%252Frover.ebay.com%253A80%252Frover%252F1%252F711-53200-19255-0%252F1%253Fff3%253D2%2526toolid%253D10039%2526campid%253D5337423282%2526customid%253Dwhestleexhaustsupplies.com%2526item%253D201307119113%2526vectorid%253D229466%2526srcrot%253D711-53200-19255-0&rmvSB=true&ul_ref=http%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%3A80%2Frover%2F1%2F711-53200-19255-0%2F1%3Fff3%3D2%26toolid%3D10039%26campid%3D5337423282%26customid%3Dwhestleexhaustsupplies.com%26item%3D201307119113%26vectorid%3D229466%26srcrot%3D711-53200-19255-0 . That is the set up I'm looking at

A resonated x-pipe is going to help eliminate exhaust drone and you should see some power too. Not a ton, but some.

Resonated x pipe? Is this an X pipe dual in dual out muffler? Or a glass packed x pipe?? Confused
