i agree with you completely wxmcpo. It's one thing if the mods are being done for performance, but seriously why would you drop that kind of money on mods that MIGHT, and I emphasize might, get you a couple more mpg's. If better fuel economy is what you're looking for, the basic things will help the most, and what's better is they are free :
1. Make sure your tires are properly inflated.
2. Oil changes and Air Filter changes on a regular basis. (Even a fuel filter, if its time to get a new one, can help on those mpg's.)
3. Keep your foot out of the gas pedal.
Other than that, (unless you have a grand or two to spend on mods) the only other way to increase your fuel economy is to get something that is actually fuel economical.

So you don't think something like this http://slrmotorsports.com/shop/index...t_detail&p=252
a SLR motors performance Chip? I see all the MODS you folks talk about , but Dumping a $1000+ isn't in the cards right now. My brother has a 1998 Ford Ranger with the 6 cylinder and he bought one of those "Cyclone Fuel savers" (Those TV things)
heres the link http://www.myauto.tv/272/cyclone/how...FSQqagodvC9LVw
He tells me hes getting better MPG, 8mpg from this simple little gadget .

(I'm still puzzled if it does or HE thinks it does) But really the principle is "Realistic "
I worked on Jets in the USAF for 11 years and this would basically make the intake into a "Poor mans Turbo fan i". Even though you have Fan blades pushing the air into the engine inside before the Combustion Chamber you have "VG's" Variable Guides Vanes that Direct the air depending on what the throttles tell them to do the VANES move for more power and tighter air flow into the intake.
So this gadget is just a "Stationary " version of it .
I'm trying to get My Brother to buy 1 for Dad for his F-150 (6 cyclinder ) I get better mpg with my Small V-8 in F-150.

So if anyone has one I'd like to hear, but I'm still thinking whether or not "Dump the $40 bucks"

But you all are right, keeping my "Foot" off the gas saves money.

Default Cyclone

I broke down and bought a set of the Vortec Cyclones for me and the wife because I really need to figure something out to help with this gas price crap. I just got a job(GOOD), but it is an hour away(BAD). I have found that coasting my way around town has added 1.4 mpg, taking my truck from 16.4 to, you guessed it, 17.4/17.5. I had trouble figuring out how to install the very cheap looking expensive metal cyclone because my stuff didn't look like the pics of there stuff. Anyway, I am going to give it a week to compare the mileage before I put one in wife's car...or send them both back. I will post my findings in case anyone is interested.

WXMCPO, I could not have said it any better myself. I didn't get my truck because I thought it was easy on fuel, I got it to do anything I would want it to. Good luck with it anyway.

Default Vortec Cyclone

I had it in for a couple of weeks with no gas savings that I could see. I did encounter a problem during that time though...my truck shut down three times. It just quit right in the middle of traffic. Waited a few minutes and drove away each time. That hasn't happened since I took the cyclone out. Anyway, I sent it back and they refunded 100%.

p.s. I don't think anybody bought this truck to save on gas...is there a problem with trying to

At what point, if any, do the mods void the warranty? I'm thinking of getting a 2008 SCrew, since the prices are so good, and Troyer is putting together an estimate for CAI, LT headers, hi flo cats, probably magnaflow mufflers for a true dual, x pipe, and a mild tune. Does anyone know if this will void the warranty?

Thanks!

Thanks for the laugh. So true. I'm the most guilty. I just press the pedal and don't care about mpg, but it hits the pocket book. I only get 10.5 mpg.

Vortec Cyclone??!?!?!!? Plahhheese. Snake oil is what they call that. If it were that easy to gain MPG, then the manufacturer would have done it already. They would have bought the company and taken the technology for themselves. Just remember this, if you can pour it in your gas tank or install it in less than 5 minutes and gain even .5 increase in mpg, the manufacturer would have done it already. As a company, they have much more to gain by increased MPG than all of us do put together.
