I have a scagauge II in my truck and it sure has me driving a lot different. When I see those mpg's drop down in the single digits it causes me to back off the throttle slightly and get them back up in the double digits. I'm only on my first tank using it, but I may see some of my best mpg's in awhile when I fill her up next time.

I am probably in agreement that you can't get better mpg from performance upgrades. The scangauge helps you adjust your driving. I really don't need a fancy gauge to tell me that I am pressing down the peddle too far. I wish I did not have to drive this truck for work.

You cannot "chip" those you would have to get a programmer.

You are wrong, Both of those will increase HP and help the gas mileage.

Don't do performance mods simply to squeeze out an extra 1-2 mpg because it just isn't cost effective. Do performance mods because you want extra performance and drivability out of your truck and you won't be dissappointed. I have the big 3 performance mods (CAI, exhaust & tuner) and couldn't be happier with the results, but I didn't go into it thinking I'll do it for the mpg's I'll gain.
You are absolutly correct. Alot of us did not get the 3 main mods for fuel mileage, but for performance. We found that the fuel mileage was better as a result of the mods.

This topic always reminds me of one of the best tune up/carb' mechanics I have ever known back in the late '60, He was my Dad's mechanic. His ride was a beautiful 1967 Chevelle SS 396. Depending on how he had the tuning setup on it had a upwards of 450 hp. If he kept his foot out of the throttle this beast would get 27 mpg. I know this to be a fact because I did the math on one of his fill ups. If he is still alive I wonder what he thinks of modern digtial engines.

Hell the LS1 engines are getting that or better putting out almost as much if not more HP. One of the ones we tuned got 25 and he puts down 450hp. That is not an estimate that is what it put on the dyno. Its funny though the 5.3 and the truck engines do not put out nearly that good of fuel mileage.

Probably because your old air filter was very dirty.

http://www.modbargains.com/product.a...=ScanGauge2_MW

When checking out, use the word "scan" as your coupon code, it will give you $20 off. Wxmcpo posted that in some other thread, so I'm just repeating it.
