^This^. Both my 4.6 and 5.4 3V's use the above mentioned brand oil and filter. In fact the Motorcraft filter is very important. Although I do like that the base stocks in the pennz is natural gas stock. I have pulled out, apart and rebuilt enough 3V's to know what mine like and what works for me. What ford asked of the oiling system, oil pump, VCT, phasers and tensioners is a tremendous amount. The fact that there have been so many issues related to the above mentioned parts/systems and no recall still amazes me. All I can say is if you are not getting any varnish or sludge issues at your OCI then more power to you. I will continue to change mine at 3-4K like clockwork as I have never seen an engine killed by changing the oil to often. Your results may vary

Conventional Quaker State a bottle of STP and a Motorcraft filter every 2500-3000 miles.

Sometimes the cheapest way out is the most expensive way in. I'm 100% certain my 3000 mile oil changes are doing zero damage to my engine.

As far as oil looks, try a diesel. It is awful looking almost immediately.
I'm not sure looks is a good measure. Should not be lumpy though.
I'll have to find my last report and post it up. But my engine is still in one piece

That's great. I was told by a Ford Tech that Ford extended the oil change to 10,000 mi to reduce maintenance costs. Not because it was a good idea as far as wear. An oil report or 3 could help clear that up.
If an oil report shows that a 10,000 mile oil change is not harmful, I'd go back to using the oil minder at 100% instead of 50%.

From what I have seen, using full synthetic vs semi-synthetic blend is about $10-$12 more for 7 quarts. Nothing wrong with a $40 oil and filter change every 5K if you ask me.

5000 miles, Full Synthetic, Mobile 1 0-40 Winter and 10-40 Summer(@27.00 at Wal-mart) and a MOTORCRAFT Oil filter (Has anti drain back valve to prevent dry startup) some other aftermarket don't.
