In most states when towing over 3000 lbs. it's required to have trailer brakes. I've been pulled over by state troopers just to check for trailer brakes

I don't know much about brake control. I know "tow/haul" helps apply brakes while towing. What is the difference in a brake controller and using "tow/haul"?

Like I said, I don't have much experience with towing.

brake controller controls the brakes on the trailer so your truck isn't doing all the braking

No problem. Once you tow with trailer brakes you won't want to tow with out them. It's a lot safer when towing a decent amount of weight

If the trailer has electric brakes get a controller. If it (trailer) has surge brakes you dont need a controller.

Maybe I wasn't clear in my original post. I have a Prodigy P3 Brake controller installed already and the Factory Trans Cooler.

Should I look into an additional inline type Trans Cooler? How about Oil? and High capacity rear diff cover, maybe aluminum to dissipate heat faster?

Fred, I must be suffering from adult - onset dyslexia. I somehow read what you said as a question, being " should I add a brake controller ". Oops, my bad. As far as the supplemental transmission cooler, if you're willing to spend the money and/or the effort to install I think it is a good idea. Certainly you could get by without it, but for the overall long term wellbeing of the truck it sure couldn't hurt. I think the rear end is fine, but fresh lube might be a good idea. Especially if you're thinking about another long haul in the future. I can't ever recall a time when I thought, " I sure wish I hadn't done that preventative maintenance ".

So I'm looking at WD Hitches and Curt 70001 and 70002 and same price only difference is the 01 is 8000/800 and the 02 is 10000/1000. Would there be any reason not to go with the higher rated hitch even though I will not be hauling that much EVER with the Ford?
