Second, trailer brake controllers have been around for decades, you not using one is from ignorance not because they were not around or not needed. They were just not factory installed. My 04 F150 has a towing package and no factory controller, I had to add it.

I can remember the brake controller in my dads Oldsmobile towing our TT when I was a kid and that's in the 1970's.

Just because you did something unsafe and illegal does not make it right, a good idea or a reason to suggest it to someone else. You are not just putting yourself in danger but everyone else on the road when you cannot stop your load in an emergency situation.
▲ This. I was going through this thread thinking, nobody is going to comment on the Ranger guy? I've seen so many Rangers overloaded. Skid loaders, boats that are waaaaay to big, cubes of retaining wall block, and the list goes on and on. It simply comes down to, just because you think you can, doesn't necessarily make it right.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

No E rated tires pumped up to 80 psi?

Seriously you may want to inflate the tires up to the maximum or there about.
Gives for a better ride when towing IMO.

I do heavy towing with my 2007 Expedition EL since it's built on a 3/4 frame and pulls so much better than the F150. With that being said, based on my experience, I would strongly recommend the Roadmaster Active Suspension. I don't have it installed on my truck, yet, but it's a future mod. 3/4 of a cord of wood had the truck sitting on the bump stops and made steering squirmy. I had the RAS on a 3/4 ton Dodge 4x4 gasser towing a 10k Fiver and it was like butter. They give tremendous control and only take a few minutes to adjust with a socket wrench. Set it and forget it. Just remember the limitations in your receiver. The RAS does not make any adjustments to this weight ratings while a load leveling hitch will. The RAS controls sway, truck leveling and axle wrap. http://www.activesuspension.com/
Are you sure about the expedition el have a 3/4 ton frame? I'm pretty sure that's incorrect. I figured it would tow worse than a comparable f150 since the expedition weights more and has independent rear suspension.
