Default IWE Problems

OK so i've been lurking a long time and learning a lot but now I've ran into something i am stumped with. I have an 04 f150 and I got the dreaded clicking noise from the front passengers side IWE. I first replaced the solenoid that did not fix it then proceeded onto the IWE itself. that piece was completely gone basically. It was a friday after 5 when i was doing it and the only place local I could get one from was NAPA (probably a mistake) anyway the clicking went away for about 2 weeks and now it is back. are the napa ones junk? Should I have went with a motorcraft one or is there something painfully obvious that I am missing?

thanks for any help

Hit and miss if you don’t use motorcraft..I would barrow a vacuum pump and check your system before tossing parts at it. You may have a leak on that side somewhere besides the IWE itself.

The Napa part is made by Dorman, along with all the other retailers... This one part that gets picky about not being motorcraft. HOWEVER (comma) x2 on Techrep's suggestion. A vacuum pump will help track down your problem. It could be that the hub is fine and you have a break in the line somewhere.

I replaced mine with a OEM motorcraft IWE about 4 months ago, no problems since. You can get them for a good price on EBAY, I'm thinking around $120?

And agree with the vacuum check, do that first before putting in a new IWE or even ordering one. If the vacuum is low then it's not the fault of the IWE.

There is a thread on here somewhere(search) that shows how do to the diagnostics, and about how many PSI of vacuum you should be reading.

Also in the interim I would disconnect the vacuum line to your faulty(?) IWE, and that should keep it engaged and not tearing up the gears if it's salvageable.

Thanks for the help guys I did not know dorman made those parts or I would have waited. I guess I like doing things twice. I'll think of it this way at least I know what I have to do this time...... anyway I believe this is the sticky that you were referring to as well
