Yea peoples eyes that are driving towards you. The stock housings are not made for HID's and can be VERY blinding to oncomming traffic.

Are they worth it for better night vision or just for looks?

They are definatly worth it. The difference is amazing. I will be getting a set soon.

And they will not blind oncoming traffic as long as they are aimed properly.

How? The stock lights are not designed for hid use and have no cut off line built into them.

Its obvious that you dont know much about HID's Ty... but its possible you just have to get the right people that know what there doing. and they can make it happen . .. they installed my headlights and fogs .. with the cut off line. Im just stating the fact that it could be done ! I would recommend HID's to anybody ! there also great for the deerlease for us hunters !
