Default got a programmer

heys guys well i was lookin threw some stuff on ebay and saw a superchips flashpaq for a pretty cheap price so i went ahead and bought it, thought hey what the hell my truck is pretty much stock and this will be a good intro to the new program your truck world, well ive got it on the 87 octane tune today and i can tell a big difference, raised the rev up to a much much better level and made the shiftin "harder", which is were i come to my question, this "harder" shiftin is supposedly better for the tranny correct? im tryin to make this tranny last as long as possible, thats why im askin, i am fixin to have my tranny fluid flushed, and i know this is a custom tunig friendly website but to anyone who wants a little more out of there truck the superchips is pretty good it makes a difference

Firmer shifts are better, as the clutches do not "slip" (meaning wear faster). The majority of the public want smooth shifts, but this is at a cost; the clutches wear more as they are forced to slip to produce a smoother shift. Less slip means leass wear, but the shifts are more noticable, which is what your experiencing.

The number one killer of an automatic transmission is HEAT; the complete flush you plan to do is great. At the same time frame, add a transmission cooler if your truck does not already have one. The built in trans cooler in the radiator is only adaquite. Adding an external (tapping into one of the lines) is the best thing you can add to drop the temps and add years to your automatic transmission. I bought one from Pep Boys (model 404) and added it to my truck.

You may already have a trans cooler if your truck came with the tow package.

I agree w/ Bucko. I have the Flashpaq and I like it allot. I could have went with a custom program but I picked this one up from a buddy for $100 and I am please with it for the money. I mainly got it for the speedo calib due to my 35's but the added "pep" was just a bonus.

I have the flashpaq as well. I calibrated for my tires (295 Nitto's) and I swear my speedometer is now reading 5-10 miles faster (speedo says 80, actually going 70-72ish) and my mileage is racking up faster. Anyone else experience this?

i heard down the line that its not always good to flush a tranny, that the gunk that builds up on ur gears and whatnot helps out with giving a constant shift...or some crap like that. anyone else hear this? ive got 73K on my truck and figure i gotta do somethin with my tranny soon, ive just been adding Lucus transmission conditioner

Measure the actual height of your tire by putting a ruler or something straight on top of tire and put that measurement into the flashpaq to the closest .25" and it should be correct. Mine is correct within 2 mph, at least that is what the last ticket said....

I have heard that too. But older trannies didn't have all the electronic shifting mechanisms in there that these do. I have heard that sometimes that junk can get inside the electric solenoid and cause it to malfunction resulting in tranny damage. I had mine flushed at 75k and I'm at 98k now with no issues to speak of yet.

ive got the towing package so im pretty sure ive got the tranny cooler in front of the radiator, i know there is a cooler in front of it and its as wide as the radiator, ive never took the time to trace the lines but im pretty sure thats what it is, and yea i like to take care of my truck, so in the next week or so i plan on gettin the tranny flushed, a complete flush and filter change
