code popped up and I hope its the gas cap from not being tight all the way or just gone bad! anyways check engine light is on and I am going to go buy a new gas cap..question is..if it fixes my CEL would it then just go off by itself? or do I have to have a shop reset it which will then cost like 60$.

 

If the light is on it won't go off by itself you have to bring it somewhere to clear the code of you can just take the negative off the battery to clear it

 

autozone or advance will read it and clear it for free

 

Yep... autozone, orileys, advanced auto... they will all read and clear codes for free

Keep in mind... after they reset the code, it may take a while (50-100miles) for the light to come back on if there is still a problem. Just because they turn the cel light off doesn't mean the problem is fixed.

hmm. i had this code. it was my catalytic converter. hope yours is just the gas cap :S

 

did it make your truck run any weird way or sound different?

 

Ive been doing alot of research on this code and have yet to find anyone say catalytic converter....I sure hope its not that..im sure thats expensive!
