Default Tranny Temps

What is the normal operating temperature for our 4R75E transmissions? I saw threads for the newer trucks (2011) that say they run around 190 and that Ford upped it recently with the newer trucks. I noticed mine was up at 194 today while I was cruising on the highway. It was 97 degrees out and the engine temp was 198 (normal).

I am just curious as to what the safe temperature range is. I have seen 150-170 as normal but hot temperatures have to effect it and obviously my 35" Trail Graps arent helping it out any. I dont have a tranny cooler either.

I've heard our trucks can run 200 with no damage. Mine on the highway during this time is usually around 170. I've had mine get up to 200 when going up and down hills. I have 33s so the 35s might be adding a little more than mine

mine with 37s and 4.56 gears will run about 140 to 150 around town being somewhat easy on the gas and when I get on the highway runnin 75 it will be 165 or somethin like that 174 is about the most I've seen but that's like flooring it a lot on the interstate and whatnot

Thanks for chiming in man...I was wondering if new gears would lower the temp...looks like it might. I gotta look into why mine is running so hot recently...probably time for new fluid. Too scared to do a full flush. I dont know if it was ever done before. Im at 97k. Might do a "backyard flush" as a guy on here called it. Just run out the fluid in the same direction as usual and then fill it back up...No reversing the fluid direction like what is normally done on a flush...Im still learning about tranny service stuff here.

no problem bud... I'm sure my tranny was running about what yours is when I had my 35s on it I just didn't know cuz I didn't get my edge until i put 37s on and gears installed. I do know that it don't downshift so bad on hills as bad as it used to a lot less strain on my tranny. mine could probably use a flush soon too. you could do your flush and install a mag-hytec high capacity tranny fluid pan that may lower temps a bit I'm not sure how much they are but my I paid like 200 for my rear diff cover I think can't remember but it holds 2 more quarts
