The good part is you are 2wd so there is only one set of gears to replace.

Bad part, unless you have damn good tools, including dial indicators to set the gear engagement farm it out to a good shop.

What gears are in there now? Limited slip or open diff?

you might be able to get the center section out of a wrecked truck that has good gears and a posi/ limited slip diff.

Personally I think 3.55's are a good mid ratio gearset... you can still drive it on the highway, and still get some ooomph off the line.

I have 4.10's in my 06 4wd... I would have killed to get the 3.55 gears but the plow package is 4.10's or nothing. With the price of gas the closer you get to 2.73 the happier you are going to be.

I would get a tune and CAI if they even make one for the V6, you will be better off with those instead of getting new gears b/c with the gears you will be sacrificing one thing or another.

I agree with Tide, get yourself a good CAI and tuner if you want increased performance. The 3.55's are a good set if you're running stock. Now if you lift it and throw some bigger tires then you could move up to some 4.10's or 4.56's. I recently threw a set of Yukon 4.56's in mine and it brought my lost power back.

I have an 07 f150 book right here. If its an automatic, it will be a 3.55 or 3.73. If you have a munual trans, it could even be a 3.31. If its an STX model, It is most likely going to be a 3.55 non limited slip because that is what came standard. The 3.73s are more common for the xl-xlt. The book doesn't even make the 4.10s an option for the 4.2L. There is an axel code inside the door and I saw somebody post all the codes in a forum on here, I will try to find it.

is there a metal tag connected to one of the axle cover bolts? that should give him a gear ratio on it.
