Gas Experience?
Has anyone noticed getting more miles to the tank when buying from BP, Exxon, or anyone else. A local mechanic here swears he gets 20-25 more miles to the tank when he buys BP gas. Personally BP is going to have to pay me to use their gas but I was wondering if anyone had noticed anything.
I heard BP gas has a lot of water in it lately
Only time i've ever noticed a big difference is in the spring, some stations must be trying to run the last of their winter gas off or something, my 05 4 banger Ranger I drove in college got about 15 mpg on the first leg of a roadtrip in the spring with gas from one station, the rest of the trip was high 20's.

The less alcohol in the gas the better mileage you should get. Notice the pumps often state "up to 10% ethanol" on them? I doubt the brand matters, and I don't know how you would know the % alcohol in the gas, unless you carried some kind of lab equipment around with you.
I use Shell, as they have injector cleaners additives in their fuel. I've been using their fuel strickly for 3 plus years now, and I've never had to have my injectors cleaned, never have experienced poor idle, and the plugs are clean when I remove them for inspection (I do this every 6 months).
I use mostly Sinclair 90 octane in all of my vehicles, machines, engines, anything that uses gas. My understanding is that Sinclair uses domestic petroleum to produce their gas. The station I deal with is a local Mom & Pop station that does all of my maintenance and light repair, I also buy my batteries and tires here. Not as cheap as big stores but when you need local they are worth a little more and they take care of me on a personal level. I realize the higher octane argument is ongoing but this is what I have had good luck with for many years. It seems that on the rare occasion that I tried lower octane fuel, I got lousy mileage. Just my experience.
Perhaps the 4.6 and 5.4 requires the higher octane, but my 4.2 calls for 87 octane, and it runs fine with it.
On a side note pertaining to BP; keep in mind that most BP stations are privately owned, meaning they are the "mom and pop" businesses in your community. Boycotting them would hurt them, and not BP.

Fast fact. The Fuel that shows up at a BP Station, Exxon Station, Chevron Station, Shell, Mobile, etc... all comes from the same port supply. Yes they have a different label on the all the trucks to help manipulate your mind.
For instance, Pepsi is Pepsi, whether it comes in a McDonald's cup or Wendy's cup. The only difference in the additives used AT THE PUMP!!! kinda like Wendy's has thicker straws, which makes me (the truck) drink the Pepsi (fuel) faster.
Please dont bash me....I design gas stations for a living, an my boss was a Shell exec for 20some years before owning his own. We talk about this at lenghts ALL the time. Mostly Devils' advocate on my side...

I always use BP there have been quality tests done by multiple different sources and BP always comes out on top, Shell is typically second and Speedway is almost always last. Putting additives in the fuel can also be done yourself every now and then such as seafoam (in the gas tank) to help clean things up. I havent owned my F150 long enough to tell you but I know seafoam does wonders in my 7.3L diesel
