FX4 Differences
I ran a search on this topic and came up with nil. I am approved for a loan and actively searching for an FX4 in the 2004-2008 range. Are there any significant changes in tranny, motor, rear ext. that need to be evaluated before buying?
Iv read that a interior subwoofer is an option, what option is it(like just an upgraded stereo pack or is it something more). If anyone has a list of available options for these trucks handy that would help also. I just want to make sure I know what im getting before I pull the trigger.
Thanks.

FX4 is the off road version but has interior upgrades as well, the instrument cluster is different, much nicer, the subwoofer like you said, also the truck is under plated and better shocks I believe, I haven't looked in a while on most differences but these are some. Id say buy it, I have a 05 FX4, I would go buy another today if it died

Also, when is the 4.6 2v and 4.6 3v separation date?

Sweet. I wasnt sure if Ford had snuck something in there that I would have liked to have on a later model. Im looking for a 2004-2005.

the premium deck is nice too being a 6 disc changer from '05 that plays mp3's.

There are no huge FX4 only changes, most of the 04-08 changes apply to all of the trims.
The upgraded audio system in the F150 includes a head unit with "DSP", replacement components in the front, and an 8" sub/~80W RMS Amp/Enclosure combo under the rear seat. The components when from 4" mids to 6x8 mids in the 2007 model year. Listen to one and make your own decision, I felt even the audiophile system was subpar. The line in was also added as an option in 2007.
For the 5.4L V8 significant improvements where in 06 and 08. In 06 the cam phaser issue was corrected. In 08 the breaking spark plug issue was corrected.
IIRC, like the Lariats, the 5.4L V8 is standard in the FX4. The 4.6L 3V was not introduced in the trucks until the body style change in 09, so all 04-08 4.6s are 2V.
Highlights of the FX4 trim include: an Fx4 specific interior, shocks, stickers, LS rear diff standard, skid plates standard, and some exterior styling cues (PTM bumpers, etc.).
Remember, the meat of the FX4 package could be optioned on other trims. For example, my Lariat has the skid plates as an option.
The major body change in the 04-08s is the fog light housings going from rectangular to round in 2006.
