FX4 Differences
Sweet. I wasnt sure if Ford had snuck something in there that I would have liked to have on a later model. Im looking for a 2004-2005.
do all of them come with an interior sub or is that just a mach 1000 option(er whatever F150 premium sound systems are called)? Iv been looking at what sound system things I want to add and if I dont need to add a sub that would be great. How does it sound BTW?

The premium sound system is called audiophile and I don't think every FX4 has it. Just look underneath the rear seat on the driver side for the sub box. As far as sound quality, I am pleased with it but I'm not really a "thumper" or anything like that.
There are no huge FX4 only changes, most of the 04-08 changes apply to all of the trims.
The upgraded audio system in the F150 includes a head unit with "DSP", replacement components in the front, and an 8" sub/~80W RMS Amp/Enclosure combo under the rear seat. The components when from 4" mids to 6x8 mids in the 2007 model year. Listen to one and make your own decision, I felt even the audiophile system was subpar. The line in was also added as an option in 2007.
For the 5.4L V8 significant improvements where in 06 and 08. In 06 the cam phaser issue was corrected. In 08 the breaking spark plug issue was corrected.
IIRC, like the Lariats, the 5.4L V8 is standard in the FX4. The 4.6L 3V was not introduced in the trucks until the body style change in 09, so all 04-08 4.6s are 2V.
Highlights of the FX4 trim include: an Fx4 specific interior, shocks, stickers, LS rear diff standard, skid plates standard, and some exterior styling cues (PTM bumpers, etc.).
Remember, the meat of the FX4 package could be optioned on other trims. For example, my Lariat has the skid plates as an option.
The major body change in the 04-08s is the fog light housings going from rectangular to round in 2006.

/tread. all the info I needed.
Thanks guys
Just chiming in here to say my 06 FX4 did not come with the Audiophile system...
I eventually replaced the stock head unit anyway...no direct iPod capability and the CD player would skip when transitioning from one song to another. Very annoying!
