I did install some better Sylvanias which seemed to help but the stock halogen were awful. I would have more light holding a flashlight out the window. To me they seem to be aimed too low. All of the light seems to hit the road 6-7feet in front of you. Makes driving a night a hunting trip also with Donner and Blitzen standing in the middle of the road.
Get some 55W HID's an you'll see your fogs shine...

After weighing my options. What I am going to do is buy an '04 bumper with fog lights. As far as wiring, I do not have it pre-wired, but am going to use relays off of my parking lights. I would keep the fogs on all of the time anyways at night. My question is this, When I get the fog lamp assemblies, Can I just purchase the bulbs lets say from Autozone and install them directly to the assemblies out of the package? or am I needing something additional to lock the bulbs in place on the housings?

Look at the 06-08 bumper instead of the 04. They got round fog lamps which are easier to get replacements for than the rectangle 04-05 ones. I also think that they look better.

I considered it. But I don't think it comes in chrome does it? I have to make this as cost effective as possible. I do like the round better though.

Chrome lower bumpers with fogs were on the 06-08 Lariats (I assume the KR and Limiteds too) and were probably optional on the XLTs.

I wonder if the brackets are the same ....... Any idea though about the hook up of the bulbs.

The round lights definitely come in chrome, cuz I have them! The relay should work fine, I would install an in-line fuse to be safe also.

For sure on the fuse, thanks for that reminder 'cause I was not even thinking that. I am still trying to determine if an out of the package bulb will lock into the housing as it is, or is there something else needed?

As long as you get the proper bulb (H7?) it should fit right in. I got an aftermarket set of fogs for my truck and they just twist right in.

They should be a direct bolt on. The only difference was the shape of the foglights.
