Default Engaging 4x4

The last few times I've had to put my truck in 4x4 It will make grinding noises ill stop put it in neutral turn the switch put it in drive give it a lil gas and it makes a grinding noise and then engages it works great every time just dnt know if that's normal

Nahhh thats not normal. Sounds like your hub and actuator teeth are grinding and not catching. If it keeps doing this you could end up grinding all the teeth down and you wont be able to engage at some point; as long as you have vacuum that is.

Here is a GREAT read about our trucks IWE/4x4 system. It gets intensive but is spot on. TNF150 has great pictures and describes everything perfectly.

In your case, you might want to take off your CV shaft and look at the teeth and see if they look like his do in the picture on the first page.

Also, if you havent replaced the IWE solenoid that they discuss, that would be a good idea.

4HI and that's what I figured ill mess around with engaging it after I get off work maybe it's just the way I'm doin it who knows but if I need to fix it it really didnt look that bad in the write up

Nah, its not that hard at all. You can get a new 4x4 actuator for 60 bucks at Rock Auto. If you installed your lift yourself, like i did, its simple. I replaced both of mine and the hub assemblies last year. Easy squeezy.

Yup me and my dad did it he has been a mechanic his whole life and as cheap as the parts are ill prolly just go ahead and do it and not even chance loosing the 4x4 I would hate to get stuck somewhere cause of that
