Default Empty or Not???

How many miles are left in the tank when the gas gauge hits "E" and the low fuel message comes on? It seems like the tank is pretty dry when this happens....My low fuel message came on and I drove a bit more and then drove up a hill and my truck was sputtering!!

Thanks for your input

and you were on an incline......so you pulled whatever was left in the tank AWAY from the pump....its a good way to cook the pump.

I think this will depend on what cab, bed and gas tank configuration/size you have. It does tell you this in the owners manual. Mine has 5 gal. left in it when the light comes on, but I have a 30 gal. tank.

You should NEVER EVER run your vehicle that low. IT not only lets the pump get hot because its not submurged, You get all the trash thats floating on the bottom. As you found on an incline the truck has the possibility of stalling.
