Default Edge Evolution Install/Review

I installed a "new to me" Edge Evolution this weekend. There are a lot of questions about programmers on here so I thought I would put up some stats and do a quick review on it from what I've noticed with it so far with my setup. Hopefully this will help answer a lot of commonly asked questions..

My truck:
2006 5.4L Supercab 4x4
About 70,000 miles
Gotts Mod
3" si/so Flowmaster 40 series exhaust
295/70R17 Cooper STT's

I set the Edge to Level 2 "Towing" It is only the canned tune that came on it for 87 octane fuel.

So far, I've only driven it over the weekend, but here is what I've immeditately noticed:
  • Setup/Install was easy as hell..
  • The only thing I changed on the Tow Setting was the adjustment for tire size
  • My speedometer is closer than it was but is still a mph or two off
  • I've already noticed a HUGE difference in the RPM's where it shifts, and the shift firmness, much better!
  • It went from being a complete slug with the 33" tires to having more power it used to have with the stock tires
  • Throttle response was greatly improved
  • Prior to the tune, I was averaging about 12.7mpg around town and now I'm averaging 14.9mpg around town (according to the average mpg display on the Edge) I'll let you know how the highway mileage is once I get a chance to do some highway driving
So far that's what I've noticed. I'd say it was totally worth it. I'll keep everyone posted as I drive it a little more. No real complaints so far but if you've got any questions I'd be happy to answer (or at least try lol) Needless to say, I'm pretty happy with it!

great info thanks, looking into an edge myself just because I don't plan on getting the mods that I think require the custom tunes. only worried about the edge being hard on my tranny

Good to hear another positive review. This is a mod I have planned for the spring, only I think I'll go with the gryphon tuner.
Keep up with the report as you figure out the pros and cons.

The cts I'm getting is a gryphon, the I understand it, it's only a gryphon if it's loaded and sold by power hungry performance...the owner Bill has the rights to sell edge but with his custom tunes he has to change the name of the tuner...(I believe)

OP, not to rain on a good product (I have a Gryphon myself and agree with your comments), EXCEPT; wait until you verify the ave mpg display with actual math (pencil and odometer). Mine displays almost exactly 2 mpg better than my truck is actualy getting, city or highway. PHP can't explain it, all settings for tire size, gear ratio, etc are correctly entered. I think it's an imbedded Edge software gimick to make buyers feel good.

Level 1 is transmission only and uses 87 octane. It only adjusts shift points, not timing or anything else.

Ive got mine set on level 2 and I really like the way it changed the shifts and gives the truck more power from a stop. Before my truck was a slug up to about 45 mph but now its not

With straights and a CAI I would go with custom tunes. I only have the Gotts Mod and a si/so flowmaster exhaust so I'm sticking with the canned tunes for now..

I have level 1 which is 87 octane trans. shift points only. I have it set to level 2 Towing which is also 87 octane but adjusts other settings as well. I haven't set it to level 3 performance yet becuase it is only recommended for 93 octance..

I'll keep everyone posted on mpg gains (if any) I've been keeping track of my mileage by hand with the odometer and fill ups, but we'll see how it coorelates to the read out on the edge...

More updates to come as I get some!
